HORSE RIDING
For those who would rather stay on land there is a horse riding/trecking centre just down the road where Horse you can go out it is understood for as little as 15€. Following the road out of Sol Golf cross the blue canal bridge and head towards San Miguel. Just before Cheers barCheers (on the left) you will see a Spanish BarSpanish (Alba) and a dentistTooth on the right. Just after these (still on the right) there is a sign for the horse riding Horseback Ridingand you need to come off the main road and drive up the incline.

Indigo Indian Restaurant & Takeaway La Zenia
<span class=Taj Mahal" src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_13_5.gif" border=0>We dined at the Indigo Indian Restaurant tonight. Absolutely first class. We were unanimous in saying it was the best Indian meal we have had since moving here. The staff and service, excellent. directions: From N332 coming from Torrevieja, Turn right at the La Zenia roundabout and then immediately sharp right. At the bottom of the hill turn right and go under N332. Restaurant is on the left just past Al & Benny's American Restaurant
I would confirm that Indigo's Indian Restaurant in La Zenia is the best Indian in the area. Having tried a number of the other Indian Restaurants I cannot believe how the majority of them in the vicinity survive, because quality and flavour of the food is poor and pricey.
Just two of the many comments on the Torre web site. Many times used as a meet and eat venue by Sol Golfers, this Indian restaurant just seems to get better. Owned by Miron and his son David you are also given a warm welcome into this clean and inviting restaurant. There is an open kitchen where you can see your meals prepared by his excellent Indian staff. Try the Tandori chicken which is the best ever!! It is advised to book (unless you are going very early evening) by phoning 966761659 (mobile) 670528908/648102537.

Places of local interest
The lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja are made up a wetland of special interest for their botanical value and landscape of undoubted beauty as well as the socio-economic aspect, not many people realise that inside the park there is the working of the salt lakes among the most important in Europe.
Nature Park Lagoons
More than a hundred species of birds live alongside some amphibians and many reptiles in the park that is made up of two lagoons separated by a strip of land. There is also a series of levels of vegetation around the lagoons, fundamentally determined by the salinity of the earth and the use that man makes of the land.
The importance of the Torrevieja and La Mata lagoons can be appreciated by the fact that they constitute 52% of the municipal area. This unique environment is a "must" for all nature lovers.
The Eras de la Sal
The Eras de la Sal is a fine example of Spanish industrial architecture from the 18th century. It served as a storehouse and wharf for salt from 1777 until 1958. Now it has become one of the most authentic landmarks in Torrevieja and is a prime example of the restoration project that has brought back its former splendour, reminding us of the hard work of so many generations of “Torrevejenses”. Inside we can see the recovery of the so-called “Caballete", the wooden platform from which the salt was loaded on ships after being brought from the factory next to the lagoon of Torrevieja on trolleys.
It is hoped that in the near future the Museum of Sea and Salt will have its permanent location in this area. This structure, which rotted away at the beginning of the 70s, has been rebuilt as a true replica using very similar wood and siting it on the exact spot of the original.
In one of its patios there is a unique stage called 'tornavoz' where Torrevieja's annual International Habaneras and Poliphony Competition is held. The Eras de la Sal is considered in musical circles as the temple or cathedral of the Habanera (a type of song originally from Havana).
Park of Nations
This lies between the road CV-90, the main 4-332 coast road, the Calle Villa de Madrid and the ring-road, covering an area of twenty-se thousand square-metres and totally fenced-in. It is dedicated to the nations of Europe and it has a scale reproduction of the map of the European Continent. One of the most outstanding features inside is a lake covering six thousand square metres, with six thousand cubic metres of water unfit for drinking, making good use of the special tertiary treatment at Torrevieja's water purifying plant. In it there are geese, ducks, ganders and three thousand coloured carp. The local Mediterranean vegetation is abundant.

It also has an animal cage with iguanas and tortoises, and a children’s playground. Also found in the park are the Exhibition rooms "Los Aljibes" which house various art exhibitions which are advertised in programme of the Joaquín Chaparieta Torregrosa Municipal Cultural Institute. There is also an area for playing petanca, and a hermitage dedicated to San Emigdo, the co-patron of Torrevieja and protector from earthquakes and natural phenomena.

Museum of the Sea and Salt
At number 10 Calle Patricio Perez. Telephone 96-670-68-38. Opening hours: From Monday to Friday, mornings from 09.30 to 14.30 hrs and evenings from 17.00 to 21.00 hrs Saturdays from 10.00 to 13.00 hrs and 17.00 to 21.00 hrs. Sundays from 10.00 to 13.00 hrs. Closed Monday afternoon.
It was inaugurated in its present provisional headquarters in February 1995 and exhibits a selection of objects that constitute a reflection of Torrevieja's historic roots, such as a display of handicrafts made of salt, a collection of photographs of the time, model boats, archaeological material, articles for fishing and navigation and others. Recently there has been the outstanding exhibition of a magnificent model and diorama of the Torrevieja sailing ship "Pascual Flores", the last of Torrevieja's ancient coastal shipping fleet that is now being restored at the Salt quay after being bought by Torrevieja town hall in the United Kingdom.

Without doubt one of the most important attractions of this museum is the Delfin S-61 submarine, given by the Spanish Ministry of Defence to the town of Torrevieja. This vessel can be visited in the fishing port area. All the internal sections of the submarine can be visited. The submarine has been viewed by both Spanish and international visitors and is the only exhibit of its type in Spain. It represents a milestone in the existence of the Torrevieja Sea and Salt museum.

Tourist panoramic viewpoint ‘La Torre del Moro’
Situated in the former RENFE warehouse, which is now in the Parque de la Estación, the centre provides an attractive voyage through the history of the salt industry in Torrevieja. You can see a variety of old images which explain how the primitive salt industry worked in the town, as well as figures dressed in the salt workers costume and the typical boats in which salt was collected.

S. I. Exhibition Centre

The salt lakes are responsible for the identity of Torrevieja as a town. Visitors to the exhibition centre can find answers all their queries about salt and Torrevieja.
